Construction of two bridges, September 2023
One of the key lessons we have learned over the first few months in Uganda is that you have to expect unforeseen obstacles from time…
Steam the Light for African Communities e.V. is an association based in Dinklage that works closely with its partner organization of the same name in the Kibaale District in western Uganda. This was founded in 2019 by William Prosper.
The region is mainly populated by subsistence farmers and is characterized by extreme poverty. Even under "normal" conditions, residents often lack the basic necessities of life and are extremely vulnerable when increasingly frequent climate disasters, especially droughts and floods, occur.
With SLAC, we can sustainably strengthen the population, combat climate change and enable women in particular, who are usually the worst off, to become self-reliant. You can see how we create sustainable change by helping people to help themselves in our current SLAC for Eden project.
We work to significantly reduce climate change, extreme poverty and gender imbalance in Uganda. We do this through agroforestry, adding value to agricultural products and creating green jobs, especially for women.
A climate change resilient Uganda that creates sufficient green gender sensitive jobs and a functioning sustainable economy that eradicates poverty and ensures gender equality.
Drei einfache Prinzipien, denen wir treu bleiben:
1. Cooperation with our project partners at SLAC takes place without hierarchy. We plan and implement every step of the project in close cooperation and exchange with our project partners and largely leave decisions on appropriate measures to our partners.
2. At SLAC, we view change processes holistically, i.e. as a whole. We ensure that the mutual effects of religious, political, economic, social and environmental aspects on each other are taken into account. In this way, we ensure holistic development that is socially, economically and ecologically sustainable.
3. At SLAC, we focus on culturally adapted projects. Our local team has first-hand knowledge of the area, the local authorities and the needs of our project partners. Through their expertise we create projects that are perfectly adapted to the locality and our partners. In this way, we intervene as little as possible in the local culture and create trust for successful implementation.
We are very happy to see how new knowledge gets into our community especially to improve our lives
