Tailor training

Now I am able to support myself by purchasing clothes and everything else I desire to support myself, my child, and my entire family.

Doing capacity building trainings would be helpful to the entire community. Right now, unfortunately, I have only one machine, so many people don’t pick interest to come and learn the skill. If I had more machines, many would come for me to train them, so I would be earning more while they would also be earning. More machines mean also more motivation.

Carpentry training

We have youth that are interested in being trained and it is great seeing that we ourselves can have an impact now.

We have many youths that want to be trained. We make many different products such as tables, chairs, beds, windows, doors, and others. When the youth come for training, I give them the package that they prefer most. I have different options that I can teach them. Then they choose what they want to learn in order to make money. But the issue is that after the training, many of them don’t have capital to start on their own.

Most challenges are startup capital for machinery because the market needs quality products. The products we are making cannot win much in the market, simply because everyone is making the same products, including the youths we trained. We would wish to acquire machines like a grinder or a blower, the startup capital is limited.

Poultry rearing training

We are so happy to see how new knowledge is coming into our community, especially to better our lives.

After receiving the training from SLAC, I have trained my family members and the neighbouring women in my community. Others have come from the neighbouring councils to learn from my project. And some have supported me by buying from me. Some women have now started rearing chickens too. So, we are carrying out self-help programs since we have gotten a lot of packages, majorly for women. Us women, we always remain at home, and we are the majority in my community.

We now also founded saving groups. Some groups gather together on Sunday and others on Tuesday, and they make a saving of UGX 300.000 (822 $) per sitting. When someone has sold some product, they come with it, and we save it together for the group. If someone doesn’t bring anything, they have to pay a fine. This money helps us for other investments, and we also loan it out to the members at an interest.
